PHLEBOTOMY:
The person who draws or collect blood
from patients is known as “Phlebotomist”. Phlebotomist is responsible for
collection of blood from patient with safety. Each phlebotomist must have to withdraw
blood sample with same precautions and procedure.
Precautions/Safety:
- Wear Gloves.
- Wear Mask (Protect from Sars-COV-2 Virus and other pathogens).
- Wear Apron OR PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Requirement:
- Requisition Form
- Alcohol Swabs/ Cotton with disinfectant.
- Sterile Syringe/Butterfly Needle (Used for Infants, Children, Old aged.)
- Needle Holder (If Butterfly Needle is Used).
- Tourniquet.
- Blood Sample Container/ Vacutainer/ Blood Collection Tubes.
- Sharp Needle Disposable Container.
Procedure:
- Fill out the Requisition Form.
- Fill Name, Age, and Date on Vacutainer.
- Apply Tourniquet Tightly Above Median Cubital Vein.
- Ask Patient to close his/her fist so veins should be clearly visible, and blood should be easily collected.
- Gently disinfectant the area from alcohol swab/cotton.
- Hold Needle at 15 Degree from vein position and insert gently till blood come to the tip of needle.
- Slowly press/push needle plunger flange backward in numeric ascending order.
- Collect the required blood amount.
- Gently Remove Out Syringe from the Vein.
- Put Bandage/Cotton Upon Punctured site bent the knee.
- Release the Tourniquet.
